JAMB to clear graduates before NYSC mobilisation

Nigerian tertiary institutions graduates will now be cleared by the Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) before they are mobilised for orientation by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The decision was reached after a meeting held by both bodies to set up a bilateral committee that will address issues relating to the regularisation of admissions by tertiary institutions, TopNaija can confirm.

The meeting was prompted by the complaint lodged by the NYSC management accusing JAMB of irregularities in the process of mobilisation.

In the letter sent to JAMB by NYSC, the scheme had said: “In view of the abuse the regularization of admissions has been subjected, JAMB should revise the window of post-graduation regularization by introducing measures that will make it impossible for institutions to abuse the process.”

Ishaq Oloyede, Jamb registrar, in response to the letter, had said the board will dutifully correct the lapses and take necessary measure to fix the loopholes.

“A new template has been designed by the Board for all candidates who need to be regularised and is to be completed online.

“After completing the forms online, a candidate will print an indemnity form which must be endorsed by his / her Vice Chancellor/Rector/Provost and submitted to the state JAMB office.

“This is to ensure that only genuinely admitted candidates are regularized,” the professor said.

Suleiman Kazaure, director-general of NYSC, also said the scheme will like to know the number of students admitted yearly.
