The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday, March 16, arraigned a former managing director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Andrew Yakubu at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Yakubu was arrested after the EFCC recovered a safe belonging to him in a slum in Kaduna state.

The safe – an abandoned mud house in Kaduna – contained $9.77 million and 74,000 British pounds which was recovered by the commission.

The former managing director who was sacked by Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2014, has said that the monies were gifts given to him by associates.

He has since dragged the commission to court.
