7 celebrities whose political careers failed woefully

It is not uncommon to see famous music artists and movie stars try to make the leap from the entertainment to politics.

Some have made a successful transition while others got the short end of the stick.

Here are the celebrities whose political careers didn’t make it off the ground.

Kate Henshaw

Kate Henshaw is an award-winning actress and a veteran in Nollywood.

Henshaw, a native of Cross River state, had her eyes set on the Calabar Municipal/Odukpani seat at the federal house of representatives.

She was defeated in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary elections in 2015.

Julius Agwu

Julius Agwu is a popular stand-up comedian/singer and actor.

When Agwu declared his intention to run for the governorship role in Rivers state, not many took him seriously.

Not even his star power was enough to help him achieve the dream.

For unexplained reasons, he later opted out few weeks to the primaries in the 2015 general elections.

9ice

9ice is an award-winning music artist, popular for songs like Gongo Aso, Street Credibility, Wedding Day, among others.

Abolore ‘9ice’ Akande ran for the house of representative seat in Ogbomosho North/South and Orire federal constituency.

He lost out to a formidable opponent, Akeem Oyewumi, son of the Soun of Ogbomoso, at the All Progressives Congress (APC) party primary in Oyo state.

His hard fought campaign, celebrity status and even the white horse he rode around Ogbomosho couldn’t earn him a victory.

Kanayo O Kanayo

Anayo Modestus Onyekwere popularly known as Kanayo O Kanayo is an award-winning veteran actor.

In 2011, the actor contested to represent the people of Ahiazu/Ezinihitte Mbaise federal constituency at the house of representives.

Anayo lost and made a gradual return to Nollywood.

Bob-Manuel Udokwu

Bob-Manuel Udokwu is an actor, director, and producer.

During the 2015 general elections, Udokwu contested for Anambra state house of assembly in a bid to represent Idemili North constituency.

He lost to a fellow actor, Tony Muonagor, popularly called Tony One week.

Tony Tetuila

Anthony Olanrewaju Awotoye popularly known as Tony Tetuila is an afro hip-hop artist.

He declared his intention to run for Kwara State house of assembly, representing Irepodun local government.

The singer, however, failed to contest.

Kenny St. Ogungbe

Award winning gospel singer, Kenny St Brown, in 2015 contested for the membership of Lagos state house of assembly.

She aimed to represent Onigbongbo local government in Ikeja, but lost the ticket to Folajimi Lai Mohammed, son of the present minister of information and culture.

Following her loss, KSB said, “Politics is a terrain where what you say can either make you or mar you. In entertainment, we talk anyhow we like. In politics, you dare not be loose with what you say because it will be used against you, just like it’s done in the court of law. Everybody has their time in politics. On the flipside, overtaking is also allowed.”
